Nanohazard Symbol Competition Winners

So you've probably heard about Nanotechnology already... the emerging science field that covers everything on the nanometric scale.

Something that small could eventually pose a threat to humans, so the ETC Group organized a contest to create the nano equivalent to the radioactivity or the biohazard symbol that we're all familiar with.

Congratulations to the winners. This is historic, indeed.

I think someone is seriously missing aesthetic criteria, though.
Just look at some of the 16 finalist entries compared to some great ones in the long list that didn't make it, makes me wonder...

The real question is, which one will end up being actually used?

Simon Johnston

"Design, of course, is also a form of expression, but expression as a by-product of the process rather than self-expression as a goal in itself: DEsign, signs of, about and on behalf of something; not MEsign, signs of or about the designer. Designers are messengers — we are not the message. Sublimation of the ego is a necessary component in the employed, motivated, social transaction that is a design commission."
—Simon Johnston
