China Design Now, London

The Victoria And Albert Museum's spring exhibition, China Design Now will be the first in the UK to explore the recent explosion of new design in China, from the 2008 Olympic stadium to the most interesting fashion and graphics. The exhibition captures a dynamic phase as China opens up to global influences, and looks at developments in three rapidly expanding cities - Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. It will display the work of Chinese and international designers, focussing on architecture, fashion, youth culture and graphics as well as film, photography, product and furniture design and digital media.

The exhibition will be on view from 15 March to 13 July 2008.

Everyone knows someone who lives in Brooklyn or who has lived in Brooklyn. Fact: one in seven, apparently. So if everyone knows about BK, what’s the point of writing a book about it? Seth Kushner and Anthony LaSala – true Brooklynites – are here to stir up the butterflies that lay dormant in your belly from the last time you were in America’s fourth largest city. If you don’t know what I mean, you will after reading this and you might actually feel them firsthand if you check out the photos in The Brooklynites, their debut authorship.

From Bensonhurst to DUMBO (short for “down under the Manhattan Bridge overpass”) to Coney Island to Bed Stuy (short for Bedford Stuyvesant) to Dyker Park, the only thing separating Brooklynites are the ways they abbreviate the neighborhoods in which they inhabit.
