We Are

Beautiful/Decay’s format is revolutionary in that it documents the convergence of fine art, graffiti, design and other relevant forms of art; exposing the magazine’s diverse readership to mediums that are not juxtaposed in any other independent publication. Over the last decade Beautiful/Decay has garnered a reputation for breaking never before seen artists, covering fine art with a youthful informed point of view and being “the” go to handbook for Creative Directors in the know.

Our story

Founded on the theory that " if you can't find it, make it", Beautiful/Decay began as a small black/white zine started by Amir H. Fallah and high school friend Jay Littleton in the quiet suburbs of Fairfax Virginia in 1996. Taking the name from a quote by artist Barry Mcgee (Twist) in graffiti zine 12oz. Prophet, “Beautiful/Decay” described everything Amir loved about emerging art and underground culture. Since then Amir and his partners Ben Osher and Fubz, have taken the publication from a black and white zine with a 3000 copy circulation to a full color, glossy publication with an international distribution of more than 40,000 copies. The bi-coastal publication has branched out to create Beautiful/Decay branded books, curate art shows, developed an event sponsorship program and created a wildly popular artist’s series apparel line and limited edition products.

Serving as a trendsetting resource to curators, creative directors, collectors, and the like, Beautiful/Decay delivers the best in emerging art, design, music, and fashion to its readers.

Beautiful/Decay Deitch Issue!

Beautiful/Decay Issue: Q just released
The Deitch Issue
Cover By Barry McGee (Twist)

Rarely do you find a magazine that dedicates an entire issue to a single gallery. Beautiful/Decay finds profound exception in Deitch Projects. From the beginning, Deitch has focused on producing ambitious projects by contemporary artists. Ten years later, the gallery is still challenging boundaries in the art world.

An exclusive interview with Jeffrey Deitch, the virtuoso behind Deitch Projects, lends insight to the rebellious nature of the gallery and fascinating history of New York art. Founder and Creative Director of Beautiful/Decay, Amir H. Fallah, sits down with San Franciscos legendary graffiti artist Barry McGee aka Twist who in an interview ten years earlier, inadvertently inspired the very name Beautiful/Decay.

Also featured is fashion designer Jeremy Scott, who extends an first- hand peephole view into his unabashed Sexybition and forthcoming book of the same title.

Issue Q is a masterfull collection of some of Deitch Projects most provocative and influential artists, affiliates, designers, musicians, and fashion designers including interviews and artlicles with NYC brand & record label aNYthing, Brazilian graffiti heroes Os Gemeos, the photography of Noritoshi Hirakawa, the paintings of Brad Kahlhamer, elite New York design firm Work In Progress, NYC pop performance artists Fischerspooner, The Scissor Sisters, and coverage of the NYC Art Parade.

This issue represents the path of Beautiful/Decay coming full-circle, to be able to collaborate with the artist who inspired the name and the gallery that has inspired the mission of the magazine. In short, this issue is the most meaningful issue Beautiful/Decay has published to date.

Beautiful/Decay Public Feed is launched!

sorry for the form post but the text below explains it best.... happy posting!

THE NEWLY REVAMPED BEAUTIFULDECAY.COM IS LIVE!

Now featuring the image based B/D FEED. Beautiful/Decay also invites its readership/user base to join and participate in the B/D interactive community, making it a destination for the very latest in news and events for the creative individual.

The B/D Daily News Feed will now be known simply as the B/D Feed and will now be image based. The B/D Feed will become the centerpiece of the site by providing vivid imagery and updates on all things B/D on a daily basis.

In recognition of the fact that they cannot cover everything, beautifuldecay.com is now proud to present the Public Feed. Driven by the desire to open the lines of communication between their readers, the Public Feed allows anyone to post links, news items, events, creative resources, artist/designer portfolio sites, innovative motion graphics, music, fashion, and all things creative.

This new feature falls in line with the B/D’s continued efforts to not only break and promote the most provocative artists of today, but have interaction with them and the community surrounding them. Now viewers/readers can expose their own work as well as the work of people they admire. The web site also features a RSS Feed, allowing readers to subscribe and be constantly informed of the ongoing developments in the B/D community.

This revision of beautifuldecay.com is the precursor to a fully redesigned site, slated to be released for 2007.
