Olivier Kosta-Théfaine

Born in 1972, Olivier Kosta-Théfaine lives and works in Paris, France. In each of his interventions, Olivier Kosta-Théfaine plays with the codes and clichés of popular culture. He uses the languages and codes of the city and its suburbs, changing or modifying their original meaning so it can be understood by a broader public.

His reflection is essentially based in rehabilitating the, often deconsidered, elements that belong to the city. His fascination for the suburbs has switched to a passion that is essential to his everyday work. The city is his muse, the drive for his artistic inspiration. He tries to decipher a discredited world through simple and ironic little mechanisms which he then transposes into galleries. By introducing the language of popular culture into the white cube, Olivier Kosta-Théfaine uses the suburb’s many clichés, plays with the truth and distorts the elements of pop culture. Olivier Kosta-Théfaine makes fun of himself ... While others wear a tie and work on improving their table manners, he’s proud of being “38% chav” and claims it loud and clear.

His work is more ironic than fundamentally serious. He asserts his pride of belonging to the concrete universe of suburbs, on the edge between glam and pop.

NEASDEN CONTROL CENTRE

NCC works broadly across disciplines in creative direction, graphic, installation, film and motion. Since its establishment in the 90's, it continues to develop by hand a raw, layered, collaged, and primal approach while expanding in scope and vision.

The mission is always to remain experimental and diverse working closely with clients, curators, galleries and institutions on a broad range of specific print executions, billboards and other one-off projects.

Other work includes editioned screenprints, zines and working with universitites / publishing houses on a broad range of exhibitions, public programme's, installations, talks and workshops.

NCC has exhibited widely including solo exhibitions across Europe and in Group Shows that include the Spank The Monkey exhibition at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art where NCC together with Banksy and David Shrigley were the three invited British artists. As well as regular commissions, NCC has attracted Arts Council of England and British Council support for its projects.

NCC has released three monographs/books: Neasden Control Centre (Die Gestalten Verlag, 2003); Smithfield Building (ROJO, 2006); and Lost Control (Die Gestalten Verlag, 2007). Both the 2003 and 2006 books have sold out. Just now ROJO got some remaining copies of Smithfield Building so buy fast!

Nina Braun

Nina Braun is immersed in an analogue world, where the obsession with material and her devotion to each individual object emerges from her very personal imagery. Her approach to materials like wool and fabric are the base for her sometimes child-like and naive objects that result from an intensive working process. Considering that we are living in a digital era where economical aspects of the working process prevail and thoughts and images can be infinitely reproduced, Nina Braun’s approach to work is quite revolutionary.

Chrisitee

Nothing's ok, everything's fine

"Started to draw since I was a baby Chrisi with my dad and sister.Pushed my skateboard first in 1990 and from the beginning I loved art in skateboarding and skateboarding in art. People like Mark Gonzales, Andy Howell and Ed Tempelton were my first art/skateboarding heroes. But I also love the old viennese art scene like Egon Schiele nad Gustav Klimt, they gave me a lot of inspiration. It took me a while before I started to paint on shirts, skateboards and other stuff. After years of experimentation I found my own style to explain myself." - Chrisitee.

Mulheres Barbadas

"Not long ago, we were playing a boring raqueteball game when the idea of Mulheres Barbadas project came up. Now we are two bearded ladies working together. We take turns drawing until we either fill up the canvas... or are too tired to go on, whichever comes first. We like monsters, icky stuff and tender love." - Mulheres Barbadas

Sosaku Miyazaki

Sosaku Miyazaki

This is a sneak preview of the new works by this talented japanese artist. He is one of my favourite artists and it is no secret.

"From the restless mind of the creative, to the surprise that every page that this book offers , there is only one step, the combination between Sosaku's mind and one pencil, one spray, one photographic camera or one paintbrush."

You can get a hold on a selection of his talent buying his monograph book entitled "Dirty Color Stereo Cooking Video Tape Dance Party" at ROJO® shop or if you are more of an art collector, you will soon be able to check his originals out in a solo exhibition next September in Barcelona.

More news soon... promised.

Wagner Pinto

"My artwork are developed through mixed and threatening forms of drawing and painting. My research is based on elements and symbols of umbanda, candomblé, indigenous graphics, religious dressings, alchemycal elements and folklore forest. These are translated through my pictorial vocabulary in the form of layers of lines, profusion of intense and contrasting colors, abstract symbols and graphs." - Wagner Pinto
