FreelanceBiography:
My name is Dave Soderberg, I am from Denver Colorado and currently do freelance full time under my company: Astrel Creative. I work mostly on interactive / interface design and I am starting to dip more into motion design. Nothing drives me more than design, the process of creating, and the struggle to constantly be inspired. I am a designer who loves to view, encourage and be inspired by other people's work and creativity. I see design as a constant challenge to communicate something / anything to anyone, whether you're communicating a message or trying to create an interface that is not only beautiful to look at but intuitive to even the most recreational user. Read my blog to see what I've been creating, inspired by or thinking about.

The New Beatport Microsite / Store
FOR BETTER QUALITY ( this version's a little screwy ) VIEW HD
For the better part of a year I've been working with Beatport to completely redo their website from the ground up. After what seemed like hundreds of designs / meetings / long nights, the whole thing finally came to fruition. Midway through development I created a promotional video ( seen above ) and website for the The New Beatport Microsite. We switched from Flash to Flex for the new store and there were a lot of learning curves, but for the most part I am pretty happy with how everything turned out. Sorry to self promote but wanted to share some of the hard work.

Android's Very Own Font

"The custom-made font took almost as long to create as Google's mobile platform, Android.
The font, dubbed Droid, is the product of a two-year collaboration between the Mountain View, California based Internet giant and Ascender, a digital typeface company based in Elk Grove Village, Ill."

Chart & Graphs Are Hard To Find

A friend of mine was just looking for some inspiration for a Pie Chart. Surprisingly after scouring the internet for a while I really never came across a great resource for well designed charts and graphs. Found a cool group on Flickr with these graphs, definitely some nice ones. If anybody knows of some blogs that showcase nice charts and graphs, post it in the comments... Chart and Graphs get no love!

Emily Is Not Real!?

Ok, this is a crazy new development in life-like animation. You have to check out the video on the article about this animation technology.
"Emily - the woman in the above animation - was produced using a new modelling technology that enables the most minute details of a facial expression to be captured and recreated."

Blood Is The New Black

I am super over screen printed shirts and then sites like this come along that totally re-kindle my love fetish. Blood Is The New Black is a bad website with some great artists and really good prices on shirts. Get them before they get ripped off by H&M.

Is Cuil Cool?

There's a new search engine that just launched and it's built by former Google employees. Supposedly it searches more than 3X as many sites as Google. I am undecided... the results seem a little iffy and I can't decide if I love or hate the layout. Be Cuil

Behind The Scenes of Campaignin'

This is a pretty cool video from a pretty cool company that really seems to put a lot of effort into their work. I know it sounds weird but they are an e-card company. I was fairly impressed with this video and then was blown away with how much production goes into their movies. They put up a full production blog that shows what it really takes to make these.

National Television

We all know National Television and I could be wrong here, but I believe this is a fairly new site and update. The site seems to have been done by the lovely Loyal and as always the work of National is what happens when the concept and the design are as good as the motion itself.

"This stunning promo was shot in one long take, and is a look behind the scences of Kubrick’s 1980 film The Shining, all from the perspective of the director himself."

The Interactive Art Director

Recently I have moved title's at my job. The company I work with kind of left it up to me to figure out what would best describe my position. I no longer wanted to be Art Director because I wanted to distinguish that the priority on my plate is interactive first before other projects. I was very pleased to find that Interactive Art Director is not only a valid title but also a title used by companies as large as:
• Absolut Vodka
• Wieden + Kennedy
• Pixar
Now meet the school that teaches Interactive Art Direction - HYPER ISLAND
Also here is more about the school itself - The School

The New Walmart

Iam sure many of you have seen this, but thought I'd get a little thread going on the new logo for Walmart. They always get people riled up! Found this over at UnderConsideration/BrandNew where you can check out a really nice history of the logo as well. I am indifferent to the new logo, better than the old one but looks very "now" to me and not very timeless.
