Croatian cinema in Cannes

The Croatian Audiovisual Centre is the Government backed agency for the audiovisual sector in Croatia. It was established in 2008 with the aim of stimulating a successful and vibrant audiovisual industry as well as promoting the widest possible understanding of audiovisual works throughout Croatia. We have recently designed printed materials and a micro-website for their presentation of Croatian cinema at the Marche du Film in Cannes, which finished yesterday.

Tonight in Paris

One of the last opportunities to see Compañía nacional de danza (España) perform “Alas”. After touring Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, South Korea and Australia, the shows at the Chatelet Theatre in Paris (May 12-16) will probably be the last performances of the ballet inspired by Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire movie. This is also one of the last chances to see Nacho Duato, one of the masters of contemporary ballet perform live on stage, alas

Pointing nowhere

A wonderfull piece of recycled roadsign architecture spotted in Zrenjanin, Serbia. The function of the object is obscure, but our guess is it must be a tardis.

Alas in Sydney

Sydney Festival presents the highly anticipated return of Spain's most celebrated dance company — Compañía Nacional de Danza (CND), advertised with warnings regarding the stroboscopic video-projections we designed for CND's “Alas” production. Inspired by the Wim Wenders 1987 film, Wings of Desire — the story of an angel wandering in post-war Berlin — “Alas” is a deeply poetic meditation on one of the most influential films of the 20th century. Produced in 2006 as a collaboration between celebrated choreographer Nacho Duato and theatre director Tomaz Pandur, “Alas” embarked on a world tour in June 2007 with performances in Seul and Goyang (South Korea), followed by shows in Den Haag which opened the 11th Holland Dance Festival in late October. Next performances: Barcelona (7-10/02/2008) and Paris (12-16/05/2008). Our recording of “Alas” is here

From Bauhaus to Our House

Tom Wolfe's erudite protest against modern architecture remains fresh more than 25 years since its original publication and is particularly entertaining to read today, when the spectre of modernist dogma is haunting architecture and design once again. Our edition of Wolfe's classic is out now, translated to Croatian by Marina Leustek.
