Nanohazard Symbol Competition Winners
So you've probably heard about Nanotechnology already... the emerging science field that covers everything on the nanometric scale.
Something that small could eventually pose a threat to humans, so the ETC Group organized a contest to create the nano equivalent to the radioactivity or the biohazard symbol that we're all familiar with.
Congratulations to the winners. This is historic, indeed.
I think someone is seriously missing aesthetic criteria, though.
Just look at some of the 16 finalist entries compared to some great ones in the long list that didn't make it, makes me wonder...
The real question is, which one will end up being actually used?

No iPod nano wheels? And was the color yellow part of the criteria?
I think the one by Shirley Gibson is the best out of those, However I think the design element used inside the magnify glass could say a lot more. I'm not sure that dot makes the most sense when trying to convey an important message like this one.
frankly i don't see how this sign could ever be put to practical use
Sorry, but the 16 finalists are terrible, the symbols aren´t memorable or easy to reproduce.
The judges ignore all communication and graphic design rules.
It looks like a joke, I don´t belive that some institution
will use those symbols.
Those are exactly my thoughts, Covarrubias.
The judges were supposed to be knowledgeable people with a decent sense of design at least.
I wish it was a joke, too. But it isn't...
