From the Ronin, i was expecting something "bigger" i was not impressed...
does karpa's comment bother anyone else? i never understood why people like to beat down other people like that. that's bad karma in my book and it's disrespectful. critiquing a work is fine in my book, i just think that instead of stomping on someones work, you should give a detailed and respectful critique instead – keeping in mind that these are real people with families to take care of.
anything short of that – in a world where people are killing each other because of their religious, ethnic and nationalistic beliefs – simply transfers more negative energy into a space, in this case cpluv, that should be positive and inspirational. if i want that kind of energy, i'll read the news. maybe it's time to pull out the designer's code of ethics again...
Rob, my man!
Totally agree with DrWoohoo
i don't know, Karpa said he's not impressed. it might very well be true. then why should you censore yourself? he didn't say that the work was bad. he just wasn't impressed. well, then so be it.
i was definately impressed.
my suggestion was not to censore oneself, but to simply control the tone so that it's a constructive criticism... keeping in mind that emails and comments are difficult to gauge the tone. i personally enjoy getting those rare, in-depth critiques. even though i'm my toughest critic and i probably have several lists of things i would like to tweak in a piece, there are portions of my experiments that might be half-baked because i've focused too much energy on developing the tools vs. the design. speaking of which... it's time to get back to the code.
woohoo!
any graphical work will always meet both - constructive and non-constractive, purely subjective criticism. both are valid opinions. that's the interesting part about graphic design. because you're the one who wants to communicate to people, it's not the people who desperately want to hear what you're going to tell them in your visual work. if i say 'fuck you' after seeing your work it can mean a lot more than when i say 'the color is too pale'.
