Lately I've come to realize that I am more than a little bit addicted to the internet. I find that much of my time is dedicated to following links from delicious and other hub sites researching news, blogs, and lately, anything to do with productivity. Yes I realize the irony of wasting time researching productivity, but more often than not I find something that makes getting work done a lot easier. This morning however, I made a find that I really feel compelled to share. Check it out here. It's an absolute genius of a solution. Simple and effective.
Another newly found addiction has sprouted from the abundance of open source software I've been finding. Being fed up with shit like the incessant ads all over my messenger program, and endless bugs in audio software, I've actually managed to replace some of my main programs, with open source alternatives. A few of them include:
Open Office.org
Musikcube
Rocket Dock
The updates to this journal have been few and far between. Lately I've been questioning the worth of anything that is mentioned here. A friend told me that a web journal is really more for the author than it is for public consumption. But if it's just for my own entertainment, I can probably just keep all this prose in my own head. Most of the journals that I keep up to date with offer some sort of educational benefit, which makes a lot of sense. I think that people enjoy reading about things that are going to improve them.
Lately my activities have included work and more work. Since school stopped, I haven't stopped creating. I've been having a hard time drawing the line between enough work, and enough play. Lately I've been finding it easier, and more satisfying to stay at home and work instead of going out and being social. My roommate is moving, which means that I get an office, and therefore, the opportunity to concentrate on more work. Soon I'll start posting this stuff, and actually get together a proper collection of pieces.

Giudizio Universale "AD FUTURAM LUCEM" cimitero di Olgiate Comasco, 2004

...Un grande dipinto di Silvano Bricola per il porticato del cimitero di Olgiate Comasco. L’artista ha ultimato alla fine di ottobre 2004 l’opera commissionata dal Comune sul tema del giudizio universale. Tre mesi di lavoro serrato per realizzare i pannelli applicati alle pareti interne della struttura a colonne: uno grande a soffitto con la grande figura di "Dio Padre" a braccia aperte e due laterali che sintetizzano l’idea di circolarità di vita e morte. L’opera è realizzata su lastre di alluminio preparate con una base di resine al quarzo e ai silicati per poi impiegare le polveri per affresco mischiate a paste silossaniche coprenti e trasparenti.

…le considerazioni dell’artista, che si fanno immagine, cercano in alcuni casi di suggerire qualche via di fuga da una contemporaneità troppo opprimente… Quando affronta il mondo reale e il rapporto sempre più condizionato con l’informatica, Bricola non dimentica le implicazioni proprie del nostro tempo, nel quale la frenesia e l’eccitazione di urgenze diffuse permeano ogni più banale azione.

dripping
..in questo ambito si inserisce con una valenza mutuata dall'informale, il dripping, lo sgocciolamento del colore, che accresce la drammaticità del racconto........questo colore grondante che suggerisce trame oscure o situazioni non certo facili e piacevoli..quei segni "gettati" sulla tela in un furore segnico che non risponde apparentemente a regola alcuna......allora ci si rende conto della energia che sta dietro e dentro ogni dipinto.

Umani vizi
...quella luce che sembra filtrare da luoghi lontani o che irrompe nel bel mezzo del dipinto, quelle figure raccontate solo attraverso i profili tracciati dai riflessi di luce o dal succedersi di linee sottili che ne mimano il movimento, quei tracciati che legano figura a figura o ne separano nettamente i campi di azione.. Particolarmente efficace in tutti i dipinti risulta il taglio dell'immagine, sempre giocata per linee oblique ( spesso la diagonale ) che esaltano la tensione interna della composizione e ne estendono ancor più i messaggi e gli echi di essa...
