As part of Toronto's Luminato Festival Dan Bergeron is shooting portraits of residents of Toronto's oldest social housing project, Regent Park .

Dan tells us:
"The buildings of Regent Park are in the process of being torn down and rebuilt, so the idea is supposed to make the residents literally become part of the physical landscape, challenge some of the pre-conceived notions that other Torontoian's have of these people and stoke the discussion surrounding the displacement of some of regent park's residents as they are kicked out of their homes for this re-build...

With all the exploration of recycled materials in green design these days, the work of artist Chris Gilmour seems like a logical and amusing next step in terms of upcycling and eco-friendly art processes. Gilmour, an English artist based in Italy, re-creates objects and machines from our everyday lives using only packing cardboard and glue. Industrial cardboard is typically used only once for shipping materials and then wastefully discarded. Often adorned with logos and other graphics, the remnants of the materialâs former use is an aspect that Gilmour wryly incorporates into his sculptural work, with an ironic wink to the viewer.

For some months, a insane artist worked during about 40 hours in a drawing in the Adobe Illustrator and, meanwhile, he programmed its computer to take off photos of the project to each 5 seconds. Brazilian agency W/Brasil commissioned Molho to conceive a two-minute free-form piece keeping in mind the concepts of habitat, diversity, living, and taste for Maxhaus, a Brazilian brand specializing in modular, custom lofts. Molho is a studio based in Sao Paulo, led by creative director Marcelo Garcia. The studio aims to conceptualize and produce ideas in all mediums and formats. The piece was conceived in a month and a half using several types of animation techniques and styles executed by Molhoâs 2d and 3d teams. It is currently being viewed in TV, cinemas, on-site projections, and the internet.

"The Urban Forest Project began in New York as an AIGA sponsored banner display in Manhattan. The Banners were purposed to create dialog around both design and sustainability. Portland adopted the idea of The Urban Forest Project and soon the streets of Portland were adorned with Urban Forest banners voicing Portlandâs own message of sustainability. This design uses common cultural landmarks of Portlandâs built environment, and at the center of Portlandâs soul, and the design, is an intrinsic harmony with our natural environment.
In the spirit of sustainability, the numerous banners were repurposed and crafted into courier bags. Queen Bee Designs in Portland did an incredible job crafting the bags. The bags were then sold, with proceeds benefiting Portlandâs Friendâs of Trees. The idea became such a hit, the City of Portland decided to explore the idea of repurposing all the cityâs banners."
